Volunteering is a great way to enhance your Resume, meet new people, make valuable contacts and connections, fine tune your craft, and gain new skills and knowledge, all while giving back to your community.  When you volunteer with ReForest London, you will be able to take pride in the knowledge that you are working with other dedicated and eco-focused individuals to keep the Forest in the Forest City!

ReForest London Volunteer Opportunities Overview

The best way to keep informed about upcoming events or volunteer opportunities is to sign up for our monthly eNewsletters (see left bar of this website). 

If you are interested in tree planting only, it is not necessary to fill out a volunteer application form, but please do sign up for our newsletter (bar at the left side of the screen).  If you would like to volunteer for activities other than or in addition to tree planting, please complete this application form, save it with your name as the file name, and email it to volunteer@reforestlondon.ca.  For further information on any ReForest London volunteer opportunities, please contact Jessica Danard at 519-936-9548 ext 222 or volunteer@reforestlondon.ca.

Neighbourhood Tree Captains
When: year-round
Who:Individuals, families, community groups
Be the inspiration for your neighbourhood - Build a network of like-minded people to assure the continued survival of the trees in the neighbourhood.Residential neighbourhoods make up 40% of the "plantable" space in London – boulevards to backyards offer great potential. The “Neighbourhood Tree Captain” program hopes to fill in these gaps through identifying people willing to champion tree planting in their own neighbourhood. Training and support will be provided. Time commitment: 1 to 2 hours a week spring and fall

Tree Aftercare (Summer 2013)
When: summer to early fall
Who:Individuals, corporations
Keeping the Forest in the Forest City takes more than tree planting alone.  Caring for trees during their first few years is essential to the success of a naturalization project, and ReForest London needs your help!  Trees that have been planted over the past few years need to be weeded and mulched to give them the best chance of survival. Come out and learn how to identify and remove the worst weeds, add mulch to the trees to help them retain moisture and smother competitive grasses.  Aftercare events are often held on Wednesday evenings from 6:30pm - 8:30pm. Time commitment: 2-3 hour events held once a week during summer months

Tree Planting (Spring 2013 Schedule)
When: Each spring and fall
Who: Individuals, community groups, corporations, all ages and abilities
ReForest London invites all Londoners to participate in planting the future today. You can get involved as an individual, a business, a school, or a community group.
Each spring and fall, ReForest London hosts public tree planting events. We invite Londoners of all ages and abilities to help us plant trees. During these 3 hour events, volunteers dig holes, plant trees and shrubs, carry soil enhancements and mulch, stake trees, remove invasive species, and other tasks. Equipment is provided, but if you have your own shovel, please bring it. Corporations are invited to sponsor events for their employees and other Londoners.
Time commitment: 2-3 hour events on weekends in spring and fall.  No volunteer application necessary.

Community Liaison
ReForest London is frequently asked to attend community events to share information about our organization. In this role, you will be staffing a display of ReForest London, talking to individuals who pass by, and encouraging people to sign up for our email list and get involved in future tree planting events.  Liaison volunteers would also be an asset at our Community Tree Sales as Sale Table Attendants.  A guidance info sheet will be provided to support a good foundation for this position.
Time commitment: determined by volunteer, generally 3 hour shifts

Tree Mascot
ReForest London has a great new tree costume, and we need friendly people to wear it at upcoming  festivals and community events. The costume is lightweight and easy to wear. Ideally, we'll have two people at a time that can switch off wearing the costume. The tree will wander around events engaging people about tree planting, the Million Tree Challenge, and upcoming events. The costume is designed to be interactive, and people will be invited to add leaves to the tree.  Let us know if you would like to be a tree, and we'll contact you with opportunities.
Time commitment: 3 hours per shift, usually at evening or weekend events

Web Reporter
If you like to write and take digital photos, we have a job for you. We are seeking individuals to attend our tree planting events and write stories about the details of the event, interviewing volunteers and recognizing donors. We also like to use photos to record our events. Once the stories are written and the photos chosen, please email them to volunteer@reforestlondon.ca.  We will post the best articles to the Success Stories area of our website.
Time commitment: 2-3 hours at the event, plus time to write, edit and upload stories and photos

Million Tree Challenge Action Team Member
We are looking for people who are "doers" and want to get involved in promoting tree planting throughout London.  More information about the Million Tree Challenge is available at www.milliontrees.ca.

Residential Trees - This Action Team will focus on getting trees planted in residential areas, which comprise 40% of the "plantable" space in the City of London. Tree sales, tree giveaways, and educational campaigns about benefits of tree planting and care are some of the initiatives this team will oversee. Parks and Natural Areas - This Action Team will focus on planting more trees in our parks and natural areas, as well as city-owned boulevards. These areas include both public and private lands. The Action Team will work to identify new areas and new partners for implementing large and small scale naturalization projects. Tree Retailers and Landscapers - This Action Team will focus on initiatives for tree retailers and landscapers to promote tree planting and care throughout the city. These might include special sales and offers for trees and tree planting and tagging trees to encourage participation in the Million Tree Challenge. ReForest London Committees
Help ReForest London fulfill its mission and goals.  Committee members do the behind the scenes planning, work, and organizing necessary to make our organization a success.

Marketing  and Outreach Committee Member
If your skills lie in communications and marketing, we’d love your help in promoting our vision of a well-treed, healthy community to Londoners and beyond. The marketing committee develops campaigns to promote our activities, supports our website and annual report, and seeks new ways to engage Londoners with ReForest London.
Time commitment: 4-6 meetings throughout the year, plus individual work

Finance and Audit Committee Member
ReForest London’s Finance and Audit Committee ensures that our funds are spent according to donor wishes, that our financial policies ensure security of our funds, and continuously seeks to improve our financial management. The committee makes recommendations to the board about budgeting, asset management, financial management, audits, internal controls, and risk management.
Time commitment: 4-6 meetings throughout the year, plus individual work

Governance and Nominating Committee Member
The Governance Committee is responsible for recruiting and engaging Board members, evaluating Board and Executive Director performance, developing policies, and monitoring progress on the Board’s Strategic Plan. The Governance Committee is an operational committee that meets on a monthly basis. The Committee is seeking volunteers who have some experience on a board, in governance and/or in board policy development and believe in ReForest London’s mission.
Time commitment: 4 meetings throughout the year, plus individual work
